Mark Lanegan - Scala - London - 04/05/10

The first time I saw Mark Lanegan on scene, was in the spring of 1990 to Bloom Mezzago as a singer, by the powerful voice of the band Screaming Trees. That night I also had occasion to know him and I met a shy person and extremely polite and friendly. That was the tour of their third LP "Buzz Factory" which, years later, still the envy purple vinyl Archbishop Marcello 'from Zabriskie Point in Milan. Want to priority 'promotion of their major (on which they signed their fourth album "Uncle Anesthesia"), or for the poor image "TV" brothers Conner, the Screaming Trees, were never able to get the deserved success, despite being widely seen 'as one of the gems of the American grunge scene, alongside bands such as Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Mudhoney. During that late 1990s, Mark Lanegan, beginning 'in parallel with the Screaming Trees, a collaboration with Kurt Cobain and Nirvana's Krist Novolesic not arrive' in port and never said that Mark's idea to start a series of collaborations with other artists, such as for example, Twilight Sad and Mad Season, and his solo career.
From that spring evening in 1990 to Bloom, twenty years have passed and many episodes of my life has had its music as a soundtrack or as a pivot presence of Mark Lanegan although in a totally random. I had the opportunity to re-encounter with Cristina, for a conversation touching on Jeff Buckley, I worked indirectly for its projects, and close relations of friendship with his fellow musicians.
Meanwhile, Mark Lanegan, after the dissolution of the Screaming Trees in 2000 while still a critically acclaimed solo career, but never successful since, has found a bit 'of fame' sought collaborations with Isobelle Campbell, Greg Dulli, but still more 'with the Queen of the Stone Age (QOTSA) that have made his voice disitintamente voluptuous in all stages the world.
There 's something special that joins Mark Lanegan to their fans, perhaps the kindness, sincerity, and perhaps even a desire to stay out of the limelight Dale, a character who was always very shy by including in the QOTSA tour.
Personally, Daun artistic point of view, I appreciate your carrirera, his talent and his voice hoarse and sensual.
not think I have ever been a big fan of his designs, although I must admit that I listened to the consumption of vinyl ii Twilight Sad and Mad Season as of course like all of his solo career and the first three of the Screaming Trees.
Tonight, I find myself here at the Scala in London for yet another live event with Mark Lanegan, two decades later. Once this occurs only with a guitar. An absolutely magical. Although it does not move at all on stage knows how to captivate the room with her voice. The concert 'sold out for weeks and there' a much eteregoneo for age and sex. It begins with "When Your Number Is not Up" from his more 'recent album "Bubblegum" to touch his entire recording career. Mark Lanegan tonight gives us some wonderful performances as "River Rise" and "Bell Black Ocean" by Whiskey For The Holy Ghost, "Do not Forget Me" by Field Songs and haunting "Mirrored" EPA "Hit the City". Not missing a piece of the Screaming Trees, and his latest project with Soulsavers ii and I must say that surprises me a little 'choice of cover version of "Julia Dream" by Pink Floyd. A great reception from London audiences and Mark back on stage for an encore. After a reprise some 'flamenco's traditional Greek song "Misrouli" is a continuation of the musical journey through time with "Wild Flowers" comes from Winding Sheet, which makes me jump for joy. I get picked up by a girl who has the goal 'of my years: "sorry but you can plan?". I look at her smile, and perhaps 'the first time I saw Mark Lanegan live, who knows' if in twenty years will 'always at his concerts, I wonder' if Mark will be 'always on the scene. Meanwhile, I enjoy this moment, the audience cheering at the first notes of "Hanging Tree" by Queen of the Stone Age. They are all so 'in visbilio that Mark Lanegan returns to the stage to the second encore to a brief version of "Field Song". But it seems that you do not feel comfortable in the role of star protagnosta perhaps did not expect all this welcome. Rather abruptly leaves the stage but the evening and 'was for us fans forget how the incredible career of this sublime musician.

David Dawson - Centre Pompidou - Paris - 10/03-19/07

Paris' always been a popular attraction to Londoners. In just two hours and half by train, the Londoners are found in one of the capital and symbol of European culture. In recent months, some Londoners are also motivated by the exhibition from the Pompidou Centre in Lucian Freud, his first solo exhibition for over 20 years on French soil. The topic: the study of Lucien Freud. The row over a quarter of an hour to get the ticket, the cost of 12 € I have certainly put in a good mood predisposition not to count an additional wait of half an hour to access the ' entrance of the exhibition, forced against my will 'listen to the conversations of two French intellectuals pedantic, next to my row. The show has only four rooms, with a concentration of thirty persons per square meter. Even during rush hour, the subway of Paris seems less crowded. In this show we enter the universe of personal study of Freud, watching from its windows, you see in the eyes of the artist and you come in contact with models that run regularly in his studio in Notting Hill. The world of Freud and 'cold and cynical as his self-portraits and the harshness of the white flesh of her naked. There seems to be a voluntary element of unnecessary provocation in the paintings of Lucien Freud, but what emerges is' just a feeling inconfortevole. I'm not surprised by the comments of some children in the exhibition: "Pope 'here and' bad, we're leaving?". Each time you should listen to our inner voice of a child and not expect to play the intellectuals at all costs. Indeed, the world of Freud did not send me anything and even if I apply myself, I find the paintings of little interest. I head toward the exit and just before the door I'm in a small room dedicated to the awesome photo of David Dawson the studio. Among all, a portrait of Lucien Freud at work in his studio in the deep night. In a game of light and shade where the energy and determination of the painter are laid bare as in any of his portraits. A picture is impressive throughout the show. Too bad there was more 'space devoted to the work of David Dawson, a real shame.
